WASHI PAPER AND LIZZO FABRICS

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Japan, where I had the pleasure of meeting TOMITA family (Lizzo´s distributor in Japan).

I have been impressed by the Japanese culture and its great quality human values. TOMITA family is charming and affectionate; it is a familiar business specialized in traditional Japanese painting wallpaper, the Washi paper.

The tradition remains alive. Noriko Tomita and his son Hiro Tomita open the doors of their historical archives to me. Their first collections, developed by the husband of Noriko Tomita, Shoichi Tomita, are stored there. I loved to see them and held part of their history in my hands. Their designs are timeless, a concept that is part of our philosophy in Lizzo. They are old but also up to date products.

Japanese people are faithful to their traditions and the Washi wallpaper is a wonderful example of that. A manufacturing craftsmanship in all it process. It is made out of wood from KOZO tree, a fibrous wood with great elasticity and resistance. In water, the wood of Kozo is still more fibrous, resembling a woven fabric. All the fibers are manually washed in order to eliminate impurities, nonwhite fibers, and later they add a product coming from the roots of tubercles (similar to the potato), that acts as a natural link, generating stability in the fiber structure of Kozo. Upon drying, Washi paper laminates can be treated with painting and other techniques to confer several finishes.

The high resistance of the Washi paper caught my attention. Bags, folders and even clothes can be done from it, in fact, in ancient times rural people wore jackets made with Washi paper due to its resistance and durability.

Synergy between Lizzo´s fabrics and Tomita´s wallpaper is perfect. The color palette, the style, the timeless concept, the passion for the beauty of history with an actual interpretation of the tradition, the vintage…. they all are part of our spirit that we love and combine both products with a unique harmony. Both products, elegant and sophisticated, will definitely be of benefit to our customers who value exclusivity, quality and the crafts and artisanal work.

PAPEL WASHI Y TEJIDOS LIZZO

Acabo de regresar de un viaje maravilloso a Japón, done he tenido el placer de conocer a la familia TOMITA (nuestros distribuidores de Lizzo en Japón).

He quedado impresionada por la cultura japonesa y sus valores humanos, de gran calidad. La familia TOMITA es entrañable; se trata de un negocio familiar con solera especializado en el papel pintado tradicional japonés, el papel Washi.

La tradición continúa. Noriko Tomita y su hijo Hiro Tomita me abren las puertas de sus archivos históricos. En ellos, están guardados los primeros papeles pintados de sus primeras colecciones, desarrolladas por el marido de Noriko Tomita, Shoichi Tomita.  Me encantó ver y tener en las manos una parte de su historia. Sus diseños son atemporales, concepto que forma parte de nuestra filosofía en Lizzo.  Son productos antiguos pero actuales.

Los japoneses son fieles a sus tradiciones  y el papel Washi es un ejemplo maravilloso de ello. Una fabricación artesanal en todo su proceso. Se fabrica de la madera del árbol KOZO, una madera fibrosa, de gran elasticidad y resistencia. En agua, la madera de Kozo, se hace aún más fibrosa, semejando un tejido entramado. Manualmente se lavan todas las fibras para eliminar impurezas, fibras no blancas, para posteriormente añadirle un producto procedente de las raíces de tubérculos (parecidos a la patata), que actúa de ligazón natural, generando estabilidad en el entramado de fibras de Kozo. Tras su secado, las láminas de papel  washi, se pueden tratar con pintura y otras técnicas para conferir acabados diversos.

Me llamó la atención la resistencia del papel Washi. Con él se pueden hacer bolsas, carpetas y hasta ropa, de hecho antiguamente, las personas de campo, llevaban chaquetas con el papel Washi, debido a su resistencia y durabilidad.

La sinergia entre las telas de Lizzo y el papel de Tomita es perfecta. La paleta de color, el estilo, el concepto de atemporalidad, la pasión por la belleza de la historia, con una interpretación actual de la tradición, lo vintage…. forman parte de nuestro espíritu que nos encantan  y unen a ambos productos en una armonía única. Ambos elegantes y sofisticados, sin duda para clientes exigentes que valoran la exclusividad,  la calidad y el buen hacer artesanal.
